We run a lot of cables in the world of lighting. The most common situation I encounter is needing to tape down two or three – maybe power and DMX, or a couple microphones, or a power and a video cable. Not enough to need a cable ramp, but they still need to be secured and the people walking over them need to be safe!
If you’re using more than a few DMX fixtures, or have them spread out across your stage, you’re going to want to split your DMX signal!
Let’s talk about getting organized! When you are organized it makes a big difference in a lot of ways when it comes to making your life easier with lighting.
When it comes to stage lighting, all of the cables that we use for power have a gauge to them. That gauge, combined with the distance of wire, tells us how much power we can run through it. It’s VERY important to use the correct gauge or larger wire when working with lighting, audio, and video or else you risk damaging equipment, setting cable on fire (really!) and more!
